World’s Greatest Lie

Breaking through and achieving success is easier said than done, especially as an entrepreneur. I’ve found that more often than not founders are faced with a choice: allow developments to determine the company’s path or fulfill your vision without being hindered by a fear of failure. Your decision makes all the difference between succeeding and not succeeding.

Paulo Coelho addresses this idea in The Alchemist, a fable about a young boy following his dream. Coelho’s bestselling novel can be directly applied to entrepreneurship and dictating your own success. Below are a few of my personal favorites.
Fate Doesn’t Exist
“That at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.”
Believe
“When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”
Stay Focused
“When someone sees the same people every day, they wind up becoming a part of that person’s life. And then they want the person to change. If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
Realize Your Potential
“It’s your Personal Legend what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend.”
Give Your Life/Startup Meaning
“The closer one gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his true reason for being.”
Map Out Your User Story
“I’m like everyone else — I see the world in terms of what I would like to see, not what actually does.”
Dreams Make Life Tolerable
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
No Path Is The Same
“Everyone has his or her own way of learning things. His way isn’t the same as mine, nor mine as his. But we’re both in search of our destinies, and I respect him for that.”
Do Things Right From The Start
“The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.”
Keep Moving Forward
“Eat when it’s time to eat. And move along when it’s time to move along.”
